Pregnancy Update: Week #21

Can I just say that Tuesday was one of the best days ever?
Everything was just so darn good,
from the moment I woke up and made a smoothie before leaving out the door in the gorgeous sunshine
until I fluffed my pillows, set my alarm, and snuggled up next to my husband.

First of all, we're over the pregnancy hill!
21 weeks down, 19 to go!

And we finally know it's a girl!
We had an ultrasound yesterday, and I wish so badly I had filmed Tucker. :)
He was a complete ball of nerves all morning.
I've never seen him so worked up about something.
We'd be happy with boy or girl,
but he was just so convinced it was girl that finally knowing for sure stressed him out.
The appointment was set for 1:45, but the doctor was late,
so we were in the waiting room until 2:10.
Tucker sat calmly, but inside, he was dying.
As soon as we got called back, he go so excited and fidgety and talky.
The nurse joked that she loved when people got so excited because it validated her job.
Tucker promised her we'd come back every day if she wanted.
After a few quick looks at the head and limbs,
she checked the gender, and sure enough, we were right!
Daddy is sure excited for his baby girl to get here. :)

I spent the afternoon writing a paper while Tucker was at work,
but on his way home, he asked me where I wanted to go for dinner to celebrate.
We found a gift card for Olive Garden and didn't even have to wait to be seated.
We shared a main dish and an amazing dessert,
and it was the perfect amount of food.
Once we got home, we watched a few episodes of our favorite show
sitting in the back of our car to use our neighbor's wifi.

Basically, I just love my husband, and I love our life.
I know we're weird.
I know I'm emotional these days.
I know sometimes we say things that hurt each other.
But we love each other more than anything, and it just makes life so darn great!

Anyway.
Pregnancy update?

1. How's baby girl?
Little baby girl looks healthy and normal,
but we've got an appointment on Friday to confirm.
She's head down for now and moves around a lot and will kick if anything squishes my tummy
(my leg, my pants cutting into her space, the edge of my computer or desk, Tucker's head....).
I thought right about now, Tucker would finally be able to feel her,
but we're long past that.
If she's being extra squirmy, we can actually watch my tummy shift position and figure out where she is.
Kinda really cool. :)

2. How am I feeling?
Ravenous.
All. The. Time.
Really though, I was in California over the weekend with Singers,
and our hotel had complimentary breakfast.
Friday morning, I ate 3 omlets, an English muffin, a cup of yogurt, a carton of milk, a glass of orange juice, and a bowl of cereal.
All before I'd been awake longer than 30 minutes.
Besides that, I'm feeling great.
Definitely starting to experience the "nesting" urges,
but there's only so much you can do this far in advance,
especially in a small apartment on a student budget....

3. Any other symptoms?
Back pain is still around, but I'm dealing with it.
I got a big exercise ball to sit on at work, and that seems to help a lot.
Also, I've dealt with a super stuffy nose the entire pregnancy, but it's only getting worse.
I usually wake up almost unable to breathe and a bloody nose,
but once I'm up and going, it goes away.
Lovely, I know.

4. Names?
We have a couple we like...
I must say, it is SUCH a relief that we don't have to think of boy names because that was getting nowhere.
We're looking at family names and just ones we like in general.
There are a couple we like more than others,
but the good news is that we don't have to make any decisions for a few more months.
Besides, Baby Girl might just come out and not fit any of the names we had in mind,
so we'll just stay open to ideas and not stress too much.

5. Any other exciting developments?
Maternity clothes!
A couple of weeks ago, Old Navy was having an awesome sale,
and I ended up with 4 maternity shirts and a good pair of maternity jeans all for under $50!
I was pretty excited about it,
even though I can still technically fit in my pre-pregnancy clothes.
Shirts are getting tighter though and the waist-bands of my pants cut into me when I sit down,
so it's nice to just have some stuff that fits comfortably.
Plus, the belly band has been nice for the days I don't wear maternity clothes.

Life is great!
The weather is warming up, though I'm betting on one or two more freak snow storms...
We're getting so excited for this little girl to get here in just four more months!

  1. I can't guess where Tucker gets his spazzy excitement. Just reading this made me all fizzy and excited inside. I can't wait for this little monkey to come. Babies are the best, and babies that are mine are even better than the best!
