Friday Favorites: Cats and Babies or "When Your FB Friend Becomes Internet Famous"
Last week, my friend Kaitlin posted an adorable video to her facebook of her adorable daughter (who is only a couple months younger than Annie) and their cat, Lady.
Friends commented on and occasionally shared the video. Nothing out of the ordinary, right?
Within 5 days, her Facebook video had over 100,000 view and hundreds of shares. We laughed at the popularity and joked that she should post it to Youtube so she could at least make a little cash with the ads. So she did.
36 hours and over 200,000 more views later, she and her husband realized this was a bigger deal than they intended. After talking it over with a viral video company, they now have an agent to negotiate permissions with all the networks asking to share the video.
Just days later, it's been shared on sites such as TMZ, Daily Mail in the UK, Huffington Post, People.com, 9gag, and this morning, it was on Buzzfeed. They've been turned into gifs and quoted in articles.
Basically, our goal is to get her to take 200 of us with her to Ellen. Because that would be awesome.
As for me, I've probably watched the video at least 15 times and can't help but smile and laugh every time. Annie loves it, too, and will point at the kitty and laugh every time S does. So we've gotta share the love, too.
So happy for you, Kaitlin! ....and a little weirded out at the Internet. haha :)
