Perfectly Natural
Sunday was our 2nd anniversary. Two whole years?! Sometimes that seems crazy fast, but other times, it feels like it's been forever. We went out for dinner and dessert to the Cheesecake Factory Saturday night to celebrate. Tucker got me a beautiful dress, and I got him a cozy robe. Nothing too terribly fancy, but fun to celebrate and spend some time alone together all the same.
We were camping Friday night and stayed up with some other young couples around the fire. It was so much fun, but even though one or two of the couples have been married longer than us, we were the only ones with a baby, and it made us feel older than the rest. It doesn't feel like we're still newlyweds. We've just always been together, simple as that.
I love that marriage is so natural for us. Notice, I definitely did not say EASY. Everyone knows all marriages have their ups and downs, and for us, this past year has been pretty hard.
But it is natural.
Being with him is natural. Laying in bed late at night, scarfing down popcorn, and laughing at an episode of New Girl with him is natural. Feeling him gently nudging me to wake up in the morning is natural. Folding his laundry is natural. Looking up to see him walking in the door is natural. Letting his hand find mine for a quick squeeze in the car is natural. Holding him after he's had a hard day is natural. Tickling his back as he sits on the bed to take off his shoes is natural. Feeling his arms reach around me and a quick kiss on the cheek while I'm getting Annie's lunch is natural. Sitting together, holding hands, even if one of us is upset or frustrated with the other, is natural. "I'm sorry" is natural (although he's much better at it than I. One of the many ways I need to improve). "Thank you" is natural. Telling him about my deepest wishes, fears, dreams, and random thoughts is natural. Kissing him first thing in the morning and last thing at night is natural. Being together, it just feels so completely right.
Thank you, Tucker, for the best two years of my life. Thank you for making it so natural to be your wife. Thanks for being my "Perfect Fit."
To be fair, you're the one scarfing popcorn. I eat it daintily, one precious kernel at a time.
ReplyDeleteYeah. That's how Tuckers eat popcorn. Who you fooling? Should I ask Grandma what she thinks about this?
